Bioimaging Informatics Scientist

What are we looking for?

Core Life Analytics is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person who has a strong affinity with the biomedical domain and is trained in the field of bioimaging (e.g., microscopy, high-content imaging) or a related field.

This is a full-time position with 40% dedicated to Scientific Support, and 60% on Applications Support and Product Development (see below).

As a Scientist in bioimage informatics, you will work with imaging and data analyses covering a large spectrum of phenotypes. In addition, you will work with our R&D team to continue the development of our StratoVerse high-content data management platform. We are looking for someone with experience in image processing and analysis. Experience with 3D cellular systems, or tissue imaging is desirable. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a commercial environment while continuing to contribute to various scientific projects.



Scientific Support

  • Image analysis, data mining, and data analysis for grant-funded projects
  • Work with partners on experimental design.
  • Optimize and streamline image and data analysis workflows.

Applications Support

  • Provide support for clients and collaborators
  • Present demonstrations, train new customers
  • Work with data analytics, troubleshoot issues and concerns from customers
  • Work with CSO to develop content for scientific communications
  • Feedback information to developers to assist in generating requirements

Product Development 

  • Help in the development of new functionalities in our product pipeline (e.g., testing, feedback, brainstorming)
  • Work with R&D team to convert customer feedback into requirements to continuously develop new functionalities, and to improve the efficiency of our products
  • Optimize and validate products, and help in testing prototypes


Who are you?


  • PhD in the biological sciences (e.g., cell and molecular biology, medical sciences, bioinformatics) with proven expertise in advanced fluorescence microscopy, image analysis, HCS, and/or HCS analysis
  • Experienced researcher who is familiar with common techniques in the lab, plan and implement your own experimental design and activities (e.g., use of controls, validation, data analysis, etc.)
  • Experience with image segmentation and analysis software such as CellProfiler is a must.
  • Proven ability to participate in discussions with scientists from various disease areas, using different imaging modalities, and understanding their needs and requirements
  • Agile, flexible, and creative with a proactive attitude in a fast-moving dynamic company, independently managing multiple projects
  • Creative and ability to bring new ideas from scientific literature and integrate knowledge coming from different sources; a pragmatic with a driven attitude and problem-solving mindset
  • Independently driven, and a team player. You will work directly with the CSO and ensure deliverables are met promptly
  • Present at meetings, and conferences if necessary
  • Capacity to communicate effectively (verbally and written) in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player


  • Experience with running projects involving HCS and image analysis
  • Knowledge of instruments such as Molecular Devices ImageXpress, Revvity Opera and Operetta, Thermo CX7, and software packages like Analyzer, Developer, IN Carta, Harmony, and Image Artist would be a plus
  • Experience with digital pathology or spatial biology.
  • In-depth experience with image processing, image analysis, pattern classification, and data mining, expertise in machine learning is of advantage
  • Background in sample preparation, data collection and analysis, and imaging analysis as applied to biological problems/questions in bioimaging
  • Keeping up to date with the latest advances in the field (new segmentation pipelines, image analysis, applications, software, etc)


Software, Programming Languages & Technologies


  • Cell Profiler or other high content image analysis platform
  • Deep knowledge of imaging analysis (i.e., ImageJ, CellProfiler)
  • A programming language such as Python, R, R-Studio, and/or JAVA


  • Experience with commercial high content image analysis platforms, (e.g. IN Carta, Columbus, Harmony etc.)
  • Deep Learning Methods
  • AWS services


Work Location

  • Minimum of two days per week in the office (Amsterdam).

  • Authorization to work in the EU, the position is in the Netherlands.

About Core Life Analytics

Core Life Analytics (CLA) is a start-up founded in 2016 by David Egan and Wienand Omta. The trigger was a real need for an analytics tool in the area of High Content Screening. At the UMC Utrecht, they developed a product called StratoMineR that allows biologists to analyze their own data. Biologists in academia, biotechnology companies, and pharmaceutical companies including Merck and Novo Nordisk use our products to help them accelerate their drug discovery programs.


What do we do?

CLA develops products for data analytics, mostly within the field of High Content Screening. Our products are offered as a service (SaaS) to our clients and are cloud-deployed to maximize the ease of use and maintenance for all parties involved.
